Metabolic Testing

Metabolic testing provides individualized, real data on the number of calories needed to survive each day and also indicates the exact exercise heart rate to maximally burn fat.  Our program includes two metabolic tests, a blood test and several body composition tests to provide detailed information about bio-markers for the individual. This data collectively represents the patient's metabolic profile.

The Tests

Resting Metabolic Test: The Resting Metabolic Rate test provides information about the calories needed to subsist at rest and further reveals how efficiently fat as a primary fuel is utilized.

Aerobic Threshold: This test reveals both the ideal exercise heart rate and also where switch in heart rate from burning fat metabolism to sugar metabolism occurs. This test also shows how efficiently fat is used during exercise at the individual’s peak fat burning heart rate.

Lipid Profile: This is a blood chemistry test used to identify blood lipids including Total Cholesterol, HDL Cholesterol, LDL Cholesterol, and Triglycerides. A blood-sugar test is an available data point during this testing as well.

GTT: Insulin sensitivity is predicted by measuring fasting blood sugar.

Biomarkers: Biomarkers like girth, waist, skin fold, weight and BMI are recorded in order to help the understanding of the patient risk factors.

Analysis

The PT, having gathered this information, has been trained by SMI to interpret and analyze the information. Thereafter, a consultation is held with the patient tested in order to discuss apparent risks and paths to improvement.
